Ricardo’s first solo exhibition combined his digitally manipulated images of the human figure with his recent series of dead bird ink drawings, which he started during the first Covid lockdown.

While a connection between these two different styles may not be obvious at first, they both represent a strong theme running through Ricardo’s practice. The symbolism behind finding a dead bird can initially seem ominous and negative, but it can also represent a transitioning to something new, a transformation, a rebirth. Much like Ricardo’s altering and reconstructing of the human figure, as a way of transforming the very identity of an individual, creating an entirely new being.
